WHAT MAKES ACCOUNTING @ GUELPH DIFFERENT?
Accounting+
We want our graduates to become skilled accountants. But we also want to prepare them for more than that. We will sit down with each student to map out a program of study that will provide him or her with the opportunity to develop complementary knowledge bases and essential professional skills.
Among the areas that students can focus on building complementary knowledge are:
Banking and International Finance
Hospitality and Tourism - learn about the operational side of hospitality and tourism businesses
Human Resource Management - learn about the "human" side of organizations and complete the coursework required for a Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP) designation
Leadership Certificate - learn about leadership and business ethics and gain practical leadership experience
Public Management - learn how government operates; ideal if you are thinking of a career in government accounting
Real Estate and Housing - learn about real estate development, finance and appraisal
A keen interest in entrepreneurial and family businesses
We pay particular attention to the issues facing entrepreneurial and family businesses while also addressing the accounting issues facing public companies. Consequently, this program is ideal for students who aspire to work on "Bay Street" and those who are interested in working and living in communities outside of Toronto ranging from small towns to larger centers such as Guelph, Kitchener-Waterloo and London.
Faculty with significant professional accounting experience and a commitment to teaching and learning
The University of Guelph has a strong reputation for its commitment to teaching and learning. Our accounting faculty share this commitment and are skilled at engaging students through experiential learning opportunities. They also hold professional accounting designations and have significant professional accounting and managerial experience.
